|---|---|---|
| Base earn rate | 1.5% back in Engine points on Qualifying Card Purchases (everyday / off-Engine spend, including flights even if booked on Engine) | Everything Else (eligible): 1.5x weekly/daily/prepaid; 1x semi-monthly; 1x monthly. Official cash value uses dollar examples — 100,000 pts = $520 cash (0.52¢/pt), $510 gift cards, $490 statement credit. Issuer copy that says “0.0052 cents/point” conflicts; use the dollar examples. Weekly 1.5x everything else ≈ 0.78% cash. |
| Welcome bonus | 20,000 Engine points after the company activates an Engine X card and completes $2,000 in Qualifying Off-Platform Purchases within 30 days of first Card activation. Off-platform = card spend not booked through Engine.com. Engine travel bookings do not count. Employee/additional-card off-platform spend does count (company-level). First-time Engine X customer; one bonus per company. Offer ends 11:59 p.m. ET, 31 December 2026 (incentive terms updated 1 Jun 2026). | Not offered on live public product pages (official rewards page and NerdWallet, Apr 2026). No spend threshold, no once-per-lifetime language, no offer expiration. |
| Redemption value | Official cents-per-point not disclosed. Points have no cash value and are redeemable only through the program. Checkout shows a point-to-dollar value before confirm. Secondary (TPG, 20 Aug 2026): statement credit described at ~50% of booking value — unofficial; do not hard-code 1¢ or 0.5¢ as issuer fact. Disclose user-selectable factor: 1.0× if redeemed for Engine bookings; 0.5× if using TPG’s statement-credit haircut. | Cash back (ACH or check, ~15 business days): 100,000 pts = $520 (0.52¢). Gift cards (Tango, 3–5 days): $510 (0.51¢). Statement credit: $490 (0.49¢). Credit & Eligibility
| Metric | Engine X | BILL Divvy Card |
|---|---|---|
| Personal guarantee | Official apply page: “We also do not require personal guarantees.” Program terms: company is the liable party. Owner KYC still collected. Confirm no hidden guaranty in the Issuing Bank Terms accepted at offer. | Conflict. BILL blog (2 Sep 2026): does not require a personal guarantee; owner is not personally liable. WebBank agreement: if the entity fails to pay, the individual signing personally guarantees all amounts owed. BBB complaints include users told no PG then collected as guarantors. Marketing ≠ agreement — quote the customer’s actual Card Agreement. |
| Credit check | Official: no hard pull, will not impact personal credit score. Soft-pull vs none-at-all on a bureau file is not separately named. Last-4 SSN is for identity verification (CIP), not described as a full credit pull. | Official Application FAQ: soft inquiry on the business and the authorized signer. We don't do a hard inquiry. Application collects estimated personal credit score of the signer, SSN or passport, DOB, residential address. |
| Employee cards | Unlimited physical + instant virtual, including 1099 / temporary workers. Spend controls by employee, project, expense type, category, merchant, transaction. Physical cards ~8 business days. Company remains liable. | Unlimited physical + virtual. Admin budgets and controls; freeze/unfreeze; MCC / merchant / amount policies on custom-limit virtual cards. Liability sits on the business account (and, if the WebBank clause applies, the signer after entity default). |
| Product type | Business charge card + spend-management card (pay-in-full each cycle; assigned line of credit; no revolving APR). Not a consumer credit card. Sibling: Direct Bill (credit line limited to Engine hotel/flight/car bookings — not this card). | Corporate charge card + spend-management platform. Full balance due each billing cycle; no revolving APR on public product pages. Credit is a business line used via physical/virtual cards with budgets. Official page also offers variable, fixed, and secured credit-line types. Not a consumer card. |
Pros & Cons
Engine X
Pros
- $0 annual fee and $0 employee/virtual-card fees
- 6% (scaling to 10%) Engine points on Engine hotel and rental-car bookings — unusual on-platform travel earn at $0 fee
- No personal guarantee and no hard personal credit pull (official apply language)
- Charge card + Autopay + spend controls + unlimited cards for employees and 1099s; travel booking, policy, and folios in one dashboard
- $0 foreign-transaction fee in the fee table
Cons
- Elevated earn does not apply to flights or off-Engine hotels; marketing “up to 10% on travel” is broader than the legal category
- Pay-in-full charge card; $40 late / $40 returned-payment fees; no revolver
- Points have no cash value; official ¢/point not published; statement-credit value may haircut vs booking (secondary)
- Sole proprietors ineligible; U.S. entity + EIN required
- No published lounge, TSA/Global Entry, or card-insurance benefits guide; product is new (Mar 2026) so limit ranges and servicing quality are thinly documented
BILL Divvy Card
Pros
- $0 annual and per-card fees with unlimited physical/virtual cards
- Real budget locks, vendor virtual cards, AI receipt matching, and two-way ERP sync in the free Spend & Expense software
- Headline earn can be high on weekly dining/hotel spend inside the first $5k/month (official table)
- Soft-pull application; reports to SBFE for business-credit building
- Visa Signature primary auto-rental CDW on business rentals; AP customers can pay vendors on the card with $0 BILL transaction fee
Cons
- Charge card: miss a due date and you get a late fee (2.99% or $38) plus freeze/default risk, not a revolver
- Rewards are operationally fragile: 30% of line, 12-month lock, 5,000-pt minimum, ~0.5¢ cash value, first-$5k bonus window
- Foreign spend: FTF + no points
- PG language conflict between BILL marketing and the WebBank agreement / complaint file
- No welcome bonus, no travel-credit stack, no transfer partners; Trustpilot on bill.com is weak (1.7/5)
Verdict
Engine X
Engine X is a TMC + charge card, not Direct Bill and not Ramp/Brex. Most SMBs stay Silver (6% / 1.5%). Skip it if travel will not move onto Engine, if you need revolving credit or transferable miles, or if you are a sole prop. Confirm the live 20,000-point offer (through 31 Dec 2026) requires $2,000 off-Engine spend within 30 days of first card activation.
BILL Divvy Card
This is a charge card + free Spend & Expense, not a 2% cash daily driver and not paid BILL AP/AR. Size the line to spend so the 30% rule is reachable. Confirm the live Card Agreement on personal guarantee — WebBank makes the signer a guarantor if the company does not pay. Skip it if you need to revolve, spend abroad, or cash out a simple flat rate in year one.
